The historic city of Cambridge is a short 20 minute drive away and for those who prefer to leave the car at home it is a similar 20 minute train ride away using Audley End Station. Our recommendation is to use the Park and Ride system https://cambridgeparkandride.info Visitors can tour the famous colleges, take a chauffeur punt cruise on the river Cam, visit the Fitzwilliam Museum or enjoy the many world class shops and restaurants.

The cottage is a perfect base for visiting London and all that it has to offer whether visiting Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the London Eye or one of the many museums. Park your car  at nearby Audley End railway station and take an easy train ride into the capital and be back in time for an early evening pint at one of Saffron Walden’s attractive pubs – The Cross Keys, The Eight Bells are two pub restaurants  that Deb the owner recommends.

Stansted Mountfichet is only a 30 minute drive away allowing an easy visit to the House on the Hill Toy Museum or Stansted Mountfichet Castle .

The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is only 8 miles away from the cottage and is a favourite place of ours to visit through out the year. It  is Britain’s best-preserved Second World War airfield, with a fascinating history that dates back to the First World War. Historic buildings sit alongside striking contemporary exhibition halls; AirSpace and the American Air Museum with amazing displays of iconic aircraft and the powerful stories of the men and women involved. It also has one of the finest collections of tanks, military vehicles and artillery. Not to be missed. Book the cottage for when there is a flying day at the museum.
