The cottage has a custom kitchen which was installed in 2013; it is fully equipped with dishwasher, Bosch washer/dryer, oven, induction hob and microwave. All cooking utensils are to hand and the cottage’s first guests cooked up a Christmas feast of roast goose with all the trimmings so you can rest assured there are ample kitchen tools for you to use during your stay.
The cosy sitting room also has a large inglenook fireplace and is equipped with a sofa bed for those additional guests. Bed linens provided on request. There is also a combi TV/DVD with cable tv.
Both fireplaces are equipped with charming traditional electric stoves which gives all the timeless warmth of a real wood stove with none of the hassle.
The main bedroom is heavily beamed and is equipped with a double metal bedstead with brand new mattress, two bedside tables, dressing table and hanging space for all your clothes.
The second bedroom can be configured either as two three foot wide single beds or as one super king bed depending on guests preference. Photos show both configurations. Each bedroom is provided with two generous, toweling robes by Christy of England.
The bathroom was refitted in the summer of 2013 with a roll top bath with shower attachment, wc with soft close lid, basin, mirror and cabinet with shaver point hidden neatly inside. All our towels are Christy of London Luxe brand – so extra luxurious.
All of the rooms in the house are heavily beamed and some care must be taken on the narrow stairs and low ceiling of the landing in order that you do not bump your head. This should be a consideration when booking the cottage if you are infirm or especially tall. The rooms themselves are of a normal height for even the tallest. People were somewhat smaller in the 15th century! Duck or Grouse as they say.
The interior of the cottage was designed by Laura Ashley of London complete with brand new furniture, silk lampshades and pristine, crisp white cotton bed linens . The upstairs curtains and blinds are lined with full black out material to ensure a restful night’s sleep.
At present the three fireplaces are not useable for real fires due to insurance restrictions and the historic importance of the property; extremely realistic electric stoves are fitted in the downstairs inglenook fireplaces Please note the cottage is absolutely a no smoking property; though of course you are welcome to smoke in the courtyard garden.
The cottage has a small but very private courtyard garden which is equipped with table, four chairs, parasol, bench and additional table. There is also a Weber charcoal barbecue complete with tools and lighter for use by guests. The borders of the garden are densely planted with fragrant roses, wisteria and lilac .
Forgotten your umbrella – we even provide two Cath Kidston duck themed umbrellas for your use but please leave them behind for our next guests.
