The cottage has a custom built kitchen: it is fully equipped with dishwasher,  Bosch washer/dryer, oven, induction hob and microwave. All cooking utensils are to hand and our very first guests cooked up a traditional Christmas feast of roast goose with all the trimmings so you can rest assured there are ample kitchen tools for you to use during your stay. We regularly replace our cooking pans and utensils and everything is carefully inspected for each new visitor; we hate yucky equipment as much as you do.

All of the rooms in the house are heavily beamed and some care must be taken on the narrow stairs and low ceiling of the landing in order that you do not bump your head. This should be a consideration when booking the cottage if you are infirm or especially tall. The rooms themselves are of a normal height for even the tallest. People were somewhat smaller in the 15th century though so ‘Duck or Grouse’ as they say.

The interior of the cottage was designed by Laura Ashley of London complete with furnishings, silk lampshades and pristine, crisp white cotton bed linens – all white because we like to spot any stains and replace linens when we need to. The upstairs curtains and blinds are lined with full black out material to ensure a restful night’s sleep.

The three fireplaces are not useable for real fires due to insurance restrictions and the historic importance of the property; extremely realistic electric stoves are fitted in the downstairs inglenook fireplaces   Please note the cottage is absolutely a no smoking property; though of course you are welcome to smoke in the courtyard garden.

Courtyard garden

The cottage has a small but very private courtyard garden which is equipped with table, four chairs, parasol, bench and additional table. There is also a Weber charcoal barbecue complete with tools and lighter for use by guests. Please bring your own charcoal or purchase at the local QD store a few minutes walk away. The borders of the garden are densely planted with fragrant roses, wisteria and lilac .

Forgotten your umbrella – we even provide two duck themed umbrellas for your use but please leave them behind for our next guests.
